The Setting of the Conversation

We are in a Time Machine. Traveling back into the ancient past, we reach the end of the first century CE. We land on Patmos, an island in the Mediterranean Ocean. As we walk around, a small hut catches our sight.
Getting closer, we see in front of the hut a very elderly person with a long, silvery beard. He is sitting on a chair, enjoying the company of a sparrow. He plays and talks to the little bird, and the sparrow seems to understand what he says. Being time travelers, we are invisible to him. Before long, we realize that he is not an ordinary man. We notice a halo around his face, with love and peace radiating all around. We feel an unspeakable joy in his presence.
Soon we notice another elderly person, coming closer. Though he has gray hair and beard, he doesn't look so old. His appearance and saffron robe indicate that he is a yogi from the East. Surprisingly, we notice that there is something special about him, too. His face also shines with some heavenly light.
Who are these great souls? With mounting curiosity, we watch them closely. The second man greets the other one bowing his head and holding his palms together. The first one asks the sparrow to leave him for a while so that he can talk to the guest, and it flies away. He gets up to welcome the guest, and offers him a chair to be seated. We feel such peace and joy in their presence that we want to stay with them as long as we can .
We set a device in our Time Machine to translate their language to us. They speak Greek, the international language of the first century world, and the machine translates it to English.
When they introduce themselves to each other, we identify them with great amazement and joy. Here we have before us John, the Christian apostle of love, and Ananda, a Vedic philosopher from India.
We remain silent and listen to their conversation.

  1. Very interesting setup. Modern science fictions mixed with spirituality. I really liked this approach.
